The Bizarro World of a Herrera supporter: Nansen Malin attacks David Castillo, and then says we should "Stop the Attacks."

The following is one of THE most hypocritical, self-serving piles of crap I have EVER read.

Here, unedited and for your information, are the self-important stylings of Nan Malin, Pacific County GOP chair and all-too-typically-delusional Jaime Herrera supporter.

Stop the Attacks, Let’s Elect Republicans
By Nansen at May 7th, 2010.

I’m a conservative who spends a lot of time volunteering for Republican candidates. I give my time, money and efforts to forward campaigns of GOP candidates who bravely step forward to run for public office, but I draw the line when a Republican candidate chooses to make dishonest attacks on fellow Republicans instead of focusing on their own qualifications for office. Yesterday, Dick Armey of FreedomWorks circulated a troubling fundraising email for David Castillo.

In Washington State we have a top two primary. Each candidate is running for one of only two spots on the general election ballot. By choosing to attack only one other candidate, a fellow Republican, David Castillo and FreedomWorks are sending the clear message that they are ceding the first spot to the Democrats and are focused on using negative attacks to beat out another Republican for second place.

I don’t begrudge FreedomWorks inflating their candidate a little. If they want to call working for them on a grassroots campaign 10 years ago “a long track record of fighting on behalf of lower taxes and limited government”, fine. Having never held elective office, they are free to assign to David Castillo a record of conservative purity.

But lacking any real evidence that David Castillo is to the right of Jaime Herrera on the issues, they instead try to falsely define her record in the Legislature. These misrepresentations include falsely stating Herrera’s position on “Card Check” (she opposes it).

Jaime has made her position clear; she is adamantly opposed to compulsory unionism and Card Check, she has never supported them and never will. But you don’t just have to take her word for it. In 2008, Herrera was endorsed by every major business group in Washington State, including the Association of Washington Business, NFIB, Independent Business Association of Washington, Washington Restaurant Association and others. In her first full term in the House, fellow Republicans elected Herrera Assistant Minority Floor Leader. In this race, she has been endorsed by former Senator Slade Gorton, and former WA-03 US Representative Linda Smith (who I’m sure Dick Armey remembers from the “Class of ‘94”).

The names of WA-03 business owners who support Herrera are a virtual who’s who in the state. Indeed, people like Arch Miller, Jerry Nutter, Craig Stein, Larry Hoff and many others who drive WA-03 economics are on board with the Herrera campaign. Herrera’s list of endorsements also include prominent party leaders like Congresswoman Cathy McMorris Rodgers, Vice Chair of the GOP Conference, but also many State Legislators. It’s just not the way the grassroots like to see politics done here in SW Washington. Grassroots and Tea Party members who attended the recent caucus and conventions in the seven counties that make up the 3rd Congressional District voiced their support of Herrera. Cowlitz and Pacific Counties had unanimous votes at their conventions to give an unusual pre-primary endorsement to Jaime Herrera. Every one of these people fully vetted the issue of Jaime’s supposed union love and deemed it untrue. It’s just silly to suggest that these endorsements would go to a candidate who “votes on behalf of her union bosses”.

FreedomWorks is so out of touch with what is going on in the WA-03 that they missed the recent headlines. News flash - Big Labor is endorsing the Democrats in the race - Heck and Pridemore. Dick Armey needs to do his homework before sending out such a dumb email.

I know that politics ain’t beanbag. But with our current primary system, this kind of disreputable tactic seems unlikely to help get Republicans elected, and most likely to result in a general election with two Democrats. And we already know how those two will vote.

The one absolutely inexplicable thing that most Herrera supporters have is an uncanny ability to absolutely ignore the "inconvenient truths" of their cardboard cut-out of a congressional candidate, Ridgefield Barbie.

Nansen ignores ALL of the overwhelming evidence that Herrera is an SEIU tool. In fact, those letters as an acronym appear no where in her self-serving, hypocritical pap. She writes as if she and she alone makes the determination as to who will represent us in this district, and that kind of arrogance is sickening to me, personally.

Paragraphs like this:
FreedomWorks is so out of touch with what is going on in the WA-03 that they missed the recent headlines. News flash - Big Labor is endorsing the Democrats in the race - Heck and Pridemore. Dick Armey needs to do his homework before sending out such a dumb email.
Represent the same kind of slimy politics practiced by the Obama campaign

Because here's an even BIGGER newsflash, Nansen, one you deliberately left out:

Three locals from the SEIU HAVE endorsed Jaime Herrera for state representative.

Yet Nansen writes like that is utterly meaningless, and we shouldn't pay any attention to it. You know, like she doesn't?

Nansen's whine is as steaming a pile of rank hypocrisy as I have EVER seen. And in my line of work, I've seen a lot.

Here's the response I left on that garbage heap quoted above:

You'll forgive me if I disagree, won't you?

I'm taken by how you request that the "attacks be stopped," directly after you tweeted those attacks and wrote one here... right now. And that's what your column here is; an attack. With you and many other Herrera supporters, the only alternative is to support her. Anything else is an "attack."

Jaime Herrera cosponsored and voted for an SEIU-sponsored and endorsed bills. Herrera took funding from the SEIU. Herrera helped the democrats spend $229 million dollars, the last money of our reserve fund. Herrera bailed on session to attend a fund raiser in DC... a fundraiser where, it appears, that the only money she got there was from McMorris Rogers.

Castillo has more education; more experience, has served his country in the military, has worked in the private sector, and has done things Herrera, who hasn't even lived here for 11 of the past 13 years... and who told me to my FACE that her absence and her multiple internships was "just like being in the military..." could only dream of.

That you "can't be convinced" that Castillo is to the "right of Jaime Herrera on the issues," it is only because you refuse to see with your eyes open. No one who refuses to be convinced ever will be.

Herrera has been ENDORSED BY SEIU. She has ACCEPTED DONATIONS FROM THE SEIU, and as a result, CO-SPONSORED AND VOTED FOR THEIR LEGISLATION.

You write: "But lacking any real evidence that David Castillo is to the right of Jaime Herrera on the issues, they instead try to falsely define her record in the Legislature. These misrepresentations include falsely stating Herrera’s position on “Card Check” (she opposes it)."

Maybe. Maybe not. But your deliberate omission of Herrera's SEIU activities speaks for itself, and the next time when you're all upset about dishonesty, perhaps you should take a good long look at a close up in a mirror... because you will SURELY see it there.

That you call pointing out these facts about Herrera an "attack" goes to the heart of this entire matter. Any time anyone disagrees with the many questionable and obvious liberal actions of Herrera, we get columns like this or even more vicious.

There was not one factual thing incorrect in the Armey email. Not one.

Where Jaime claims TO BE "OPPOSED TO COMPULSORY UNIONISM," the very bill SHE COSPONSORED AND VOTED FOR REQUIRED THAT very thing.

She voted PRECISELY the way her SEIU donors WANTED her to vote. Only FOUR Republicans voted for that bill; not even her seatmate voted for it, not did her leader.

That you consistently ignore that fact causes me to question YOU. YOU have a political position of some sort; YOU are SUPPOSED to be fair and impartial, yet THIS is what we get from you?

I'm extremely troubled by your selective fact set. I'm extremely troubled that even in the face of undeniable evidence, you would engage in this kind of hypocrisy. If you're going to go after someone, use ALL the facts, not just the ones you find convenient.

You babble about Herrera's endorsements while ignoring Castillo's. You ignore Castillo's superior experience and overlook the FACT that the entirety of her political career is orchestrated and produced by McMorris Rogers, while touting that support as if it's some sort of big deal.

YOU have never been represented by this waste of space. *I* have. And I would vote for Castillo every damned day and twice on Sunday as a result.

Because unlike you, I'm not blinded by the cult of personality surrounding this woman who lacks sufficient experience and conservative credentials to operate a shoeshine stand, let alone get elected to Congress. And your inability to address ALL of the facts makes you unfit to be elected to the position of 5th grade hall monitor.

Getting Republicans elected should never require the suspension of reality, as your selective view of the term clearly shows you have done, nor should it require me or anyone else to suspend our disbelief.

Your worldview and support of Herrera proves that you have done both. But I haven't, nor will I. And I will endorse, work for AND finance WHOEVER runs against Herrera as long as she is in politics.

But then, facts and reality are on my side. What's on yours?

  1. Since Nan places so much importance on endorsements, perhaps a peek at Castillo's endorsements is in order.
