I make no bones about it: there is a surreal quality to Barnett's almost cult-like support of Herrera; his eagerness to toss his endorsement of David Castillo under a bus so he could fully "devote" his efforts to supporting Jaime was just, well, bizarre.
But the one inescapable fact here is that attaching one's self to Herrera certainly does precisely zilch to get you elected... to anything.
Nor should it.
When you run a true campaign, you simply cannot rely on glittering generalities... what amounts to running a campaign precisely like that of Obama. You MUST show a grasp of the issues, you must have a plan, and you must stand on your record. In short, you must do all the things that Herrera can't do, since few in the GOP will vote for someone with a record like Herrera's.
Herrera has none of that which would support her ascension to Congress. And unfortunately for Barnett, he was lacking in the grasp and vision thing as well... because cutting and pasting the words and works of others isn't gonna cut it.
It must have been a horrific blow that his employers of 19 years or so gave major money to Ann Rivers... but none to him. How could he bear that?

Well, it will soon be behind him. And now, he can spend ALL of his free time, hopefully, "helping" Jaime Herrera.

I'm surprised to see Barnett falling away first. While none are near Ann in donations, he was second. I can certainly think of another who shouldn't even be in the race.
ReplyDeleteThe official announcement was made this evening, with Barnett throwing his support behind Brandon Vick.
